An Intimate Evening with Legendary Actress and
Superstar Ms. Lauren Bacall
Presented by the Brilliant Lecture Series
The River Oaks Theater screening of "The Have and Have
Not"
March 11, 2009
One of Hollywood’s
legends, actress Ms. Lauren Bacall made an appearance
at the River
Oaks Theater, Houston, Texas, Wednesday night, March 11, 2009, as
The
Brilliant Lecture Series presented a screening of the 1944
black and white film, which launch Ms. Bacall career, “To Have and Have
Not”,
directed by Howard Hanks and starring Walter Brennan, Humphrey Bogart and Ms. Lauren Bacall. Hundreds of film
buffs fill the downstairs theater to watch the film and have an
opportunity to see and to ask some questions as the legendary film
superstar, literally, sat in front of the silver screen. C-47 Houston
magazine
was there to see Ms. Bacall exit her stretch limousine to greet Houston’s Ms. Lynn
Wyatt, the Chairman Emeritus, of the Brilliant Lectures, who escorted Ms.
Bacall, as both entered one of Houston’s last remaining theater
houses.
Several fans were waiting and called out to Ms. Bacall for
autographs and several photographers were there to take pictures
including Getty Publications. Ms. Bacall was extremely cordial to
her fans and entered the theater doors and sat only four rows behind
where we were sitting during the last half of the film. At the end
of the film, the Chairman Emeritus walked to the front of the
theater and introduced Ms. Bacall. The entire theater stood in
ovation as Ms. Bacall slowly walked down the isle, only inches from
where we sat, to take her position center stage. It was amazing! She
reflected on her first acting gig, “Johnny Two by
Four”
which she did not have a speaking part but where she was stung by
the acting bug. Ms. Bacall was only 19 years old when she got the
part in “To
Have and Have Not”. This was a
“once-in-a-lifetime” event that brought out some of the Crème-a-la-Crème
of Houston’s elites. If you missed this event you missed out on a
very special evening with one of Hollywood’s legends in film and
television, Ms. Lauren Bacall.
