SWAMP Presents: "A Class Apart" a
film by
Carlos
Sandoval and Peter Miller
Houston
PBS
in partnership with SWAMP presented a FREE screening of the documentary
film, "A Class Apart". Produced and Directed by Carlos Sandoval and Peter Miller, the film centers
around the supreme court decision defining the right to be treating
equally before the law, raising questions, of course, about
inclusion and, American identity. The screening was held at the new
Talento Billingue de Houston theater near downtown Houston to a full
auditorium.
The film
used archived pictures from the time period and additional shots
were filmed in San Antonio and Edna, Texas.
Premiering on
PBS's American Experience on Monday,
February 23rd, this new documentary is the first major film to bring
to life the heroic post-World War II struggle of Mexican Americans
against the Jim Crow-style discrimination targeted against them.
"A
Class Apart" dramatically interweaves the story of its
central characters - activists and lawyers, returning veterans and
ordinary citizens, murderer and victim- within the broader history
of Latinos in America during a time of extraordinary change.
The Southwest
Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) served as a
fiscal sponsor for "A Class Apart."
C-47
Houston magazine was there for the Houston premiere
February 16, 2009. Below are some of the pictures.
